Wedding Styles explained – rustic, vintage & boho

Wedding Styles – Rustic / Vintage / Boho – what is the difference?

This is a question I get asked a lot as a wedding stylist.  These wedding styles are so popular and I find that couples often like a bit of each style, and that is absolutely fine, you do not have to stick rigidly to one style.  Nothing better than a mix and match!  Here is a brief breakdown of each.

Vintage

I will start with my favourite of the three, which is vintage.  Vintage draws on influences from the past for style and inspiration.  The easiest way to accomplish this is through the fashion and beauty look of your wedding.  For your decor, weathered and worn is the look to go for.  Distressed wood, vintage china and glass, old books.  Raid your granny’s house for inspiration and ideas.

Boho

The boho theme is carefree, cool and beautiful.   It is artsy, taking influences from hippie culture.  Embrace this eclectic, relaxed style with oriental rugs and macrame hangings.   It is fun and free, without trying too hard.

Rustic

Rustic is a style with emphasis on natural materials and textures, and typical rustic venues like barns and woodland set the scene for this simple theme. Think string lights, jars wrapped in hession or lace, bunting, This style is organic, out-doorsy, relaxed, with rugged natural beauty.

So that’s a brief explanation of each style, and do not be afraid to mix them.  There is so much overlap with styles, there is no need to put yourself in a box and stick to one!  As long as you stay authentic to you then it will be absolutely beautiful.  Click here to check out some of my other blogs and get some ideas.  If you would like to book a creative workshop to discuss your wedding style and design click here to check availability.
